The Inspiring Documentary About India's Bob Dylan
"Lou and Behold" offers an exhilarating trip through the life of the legendary Lou Majaw, an unexpected rockstar whose passion and dedication has reshaped India's music scene. This riveting documentary, shot across vibrant and diverse Indian landscapes, delves deep into the radical life of Lou, a musician who rose from desperate poverty to become an iconic figure in Indian rock.
Witness Lou's transformative journey from his early days sleeping on the streets of Kolkata before finding his first paying gigs as a guitar player, to his ascent as a groundbreaking artist in a burgeoning club scene. Growing up in a Northeast India roiled by violence and insurgency, Lou's life takes a radical turn in 1966 when Bob Dylan's "Blowin' in the Wind" echoes across continents, igniting a fire within him, sparking a lifelong crusade to promote Dylan to the Indian masses and culminating in an unparalleled tradition of 50 consecutive annual Bob Dylan tribute concerts.
Immerse yourself in the rich tapestry of Indian rock history through "Lou and Behold," as it intertwines Lou's personal saga with spell-binding performances of Dylan's classics by Lou and other Indian rock legends. This documentary, a labor of love by Director Bidyut Kotoky, spans over three decades of friendship and artistic collaboration with Majaw, offering an intimate and electrifying portrait of a man who is not just a musician but a cultural icon – “the Bob Dylan of India”, as hailed by Rolling Stone Magazine.
"Lou and Behold" is not just a film; it's an odyssey of music, resilience, and the unyielding power of dreams. It's a must-see for anyone who believes in the transformative power of music and the enduring spirit of a true artist.
